120-Acres in Nicasio

Halleck Creek Ranch owns a 60-acre parcel of land in the picturesque Nicasio Valley, 10 miles west of San Rafael in Marin County.

Our facility is wheelchair accessible and designed to meet the needs of all of our participants.

Old Rancheria has provided the community with adaptive riding programs since the 1970s including offering adaptive trail rides which are truly a unique experience. We also host summer camp, volunteer trainings, community events and more at ORR.

In 2023, we were gifted the beautiful RockRose Ranch by local impact philanthropist Maja Kristin. After careful review, we are now offering programming and are in the process of making improvements and modifications to the Ranch. Support Us!

Currently, our unmounted programs are held at RockRose Ranch, including Horse Skills, Vocational and Life Skills (VALS), and other partnerships that leverage the relationship between horse and human. We recently launched adaptive riding at RockRose Ranch as well.

Outdoor Arena

RRR 1 ride 2-2 (3).jpg

To help our riders mount their horses at ORR, we have an ADA-compliant mounting ramp, as well as mounting steps.

The ramp brings each rider level with the back of the horse. This gives riders who use a wheelchair or walker for mobility, or who may have compromised balance, the support and assistance necessary to mount the horse safely.

The mounting block is used for riders with greater strength and mobility and develops coordination and independence.

RRR offers a riding arena with sand footing for lessons and warm up exercises. Because the arena is not covered (and mostly in full sun), we plan to enclose a shaded meadow nearby to use as an obstacle course and for equitation during the summer months.

Trail Rides and Nature

Trails6.webp

ORR has an 85’ x 120’ covered riding arena with sand footing for lessons and warm up exercises.

The arena also provides a protected and safe riding area during inclement weather.

There are miles of trails in the redwoods and to the top of Teton Hill on the RRR property. It is a lush landscape with mix environments to explore and learn from.

Our unmounted horsemanship programs utilize the trails to lead their horses along for gentle exercise and to experience the healing power of nature.

In addition to the property, ORR has a deeded riding easement on an adjoining 280-acre property. This allows riders to enjoy all of the beautiful sights, sounds, smells, and undulating terrain of a real trail ride.

There is wildlife to be spotted on the trail, creek beds to traverse, hills to climb and descend, and native plants to smell. The experience is authentic and exciting, and completely unique to Halleck Creek Ranch.

Community Center

Housed within the Main House (formerly used as a private residence), Halleck Creek Ranch is creating a new community center that will serve as a hub for special events, socializing, workshops and classes, family and parent meet ups, and more.

Our first step in making the building safe and accessible for our entire community will be through extensive accessibility modifications of bathrooms and ramps. This is why in 2026 we are launching a capital campaign to Reimagine RockRose.

Although this may take some time to achieve, we haven’t let this hold us back from using the space – we’ve held holiday parties, movie nights, and donor events so far, with more on the horizon.

ORR has two large indoor and gender-neutral restrooms available for use by the public.

Both restrooms are ADA-compliant, and offer grab-bars near the toilet, as well as hot and cold-water sinks, plentiful soap, and single-use paper towels. Restrooms are cleaned regularly and are disinfected daily.

We also have a shaded picnic area, community garden, and volunteer cabin for visitors to our site.
