As we close out the year, we want to share a story that shows exactly what your support makes possible at Halleck Creek Ranch.
Meet Spencer.
He is 36 years old, full of heart, and like so many adults with disabilities, he has spent much of his life trying to find a place where he truly belongs. A place where people understand him. A place where he can contribute, feel proud, and connect with others.

Finding His Place
Spencer’s mom, Britt, shared that they first heard about Halleck Creek Ranch from their neighbors. Spencer began participating in our Horse Skills program on the work crew alongside staff, helping clean stalls. From the very beginning, something shifted.
“He gets right to work without anyone saying anything to him. He is so independent, and he’s learned such a strong work ethic.”
Soon, our staff encouraged Spencer to try riding. It was not easy at first, but once he got on the horse, everything changed.
One day, while Britt and her husband were traveling, Spencer’s brother sent them a video from the Ranch. Spencer was riding with a huge smile, and everyone around him was cheering. His brother, the volunteers, the staff, his whole community.
“He was eating it up,” Britt said.
It was a moment their family will never forget.
Growth, Confidence, and Connection
Today, Spencer is happier, more social, and filled with purpose.
Britt told us:
“[HCR days] are his favorite days. He wakes up ready to go. He seems happier… more content… like he has increased self-worth.”
And the impact is not only for Spencer.
While he is riding, his parents receive something rare and precious. Peace. They take long walks around RockRose Ranch, breathing in the quiet, knowing Spencer is safe and supported.
“I feel safe leaving him with Mesa and Maya,” Britt shared. For her and her husband, this time together is a small but powerful gift. Nature therapy for parents who often carry so much.
Building Community Where It Is Rare
Adults with disabilities often struggle with isolation. Spencer was no different. But now?
“He wants to go to the parties. He wants to be part of the community. He has become so much more social since coming to HCR.”
Halleck Creek is one of the few places where adults like Spencer are not only welcomed. They are celebrated. Included. Encouraged. Seen.
“So many programs will not include adults with behavioral challenges,” Britt explained. “But Halleck Creek includes everyone.”
