At Halleck Creek Ranch, the magic of our mission does not happen through horses and riders alone. It is made possible by an entire village of people who show up, week after week, to lift our programs from the ground up.

In 2025, 178 volunteers gifted 12,825 hours of their time, an extraordinary contribution valued at $514,775. Their dedication is the backbone of our operations, and every lesson, breakthrough, and moment of connection is touched by their care.

A New Volunteer Finds His Place

One of those incredible volunteers is Grason.

When Grason moved to San Francisco for college, he craved more connection to nature and a meaningful way to give back. A Google search led him to Halleck Creek Ranch, and from his very first orientation, he knew he had found something special. He now volunteers every Friday and has become a consistent, dependable part of our community.

“What stood out was not just the horses,” he shared. “It was how welcoming everyone was. I felt at home immediately.”

In just three months, Grason has grown from a brand-new sidewalker to a confident horse leader. But the biggest surprise has been how deeply he connects with the riders.

“I thought I was coming for the horses, but I fell in love with the riders,” he said. “Seeing their growth each week is so rewarding. One rider even painted me a picture. It is on my fridge.”

Growth That Goes Both Ways

Volunteering has shaped Grason personally too.

“I used to get really stressed when a horse went for grass,” he admitted. “But then I realized that if I stayed calm and emotionally regulated myself, the horse calmed down too. It is such a powerful skill to have, and something I carry into the rest of my life.”

As the weeks passed, something unexpected began to happen. Grason started imagining a different kind of future for himself.

“In my personal life, I do not really know what I want to do,” he said. “Being at HCR has helped me think about what matters to me: working outside, working with my hands, and being with people of all abilities. Volunteering here makes me feel like I might want to go in this direction later in life.”

He describes Halleck Creek as a place where everyone belongs.

“Even if someone comes in having a hard day, they leave feeling better. It is the horses, the people, the nature.”

The Heartbeat of Our Community

Volunteers like Grason are the heartbeat of our community and part of what makes every lesson possible.

This is what generosity fuels. This is the impact of a village.

Every hour given, every hand offered, and every moment of presence helps ensure that riders, regardless of financial circumstances, have access to the healing power of horses, nature, and community.

Together, we continue building what we believe in most:

Life Without Barriers.
